Supporting change within and between you.

Couples EMDR Intensive

working with people in Anglesea, Torquay, Geelong and Surf Coast & Australia-wide.

Combining EMDR intensive therapy with focused couples sessions to support deeper understanding and relational change.

There are times in relationships where patterns feel difficult to shift, even with insight and effort.

Often, this is because what is happening between you is shaped by something deeper - individual experiences, emotional memory, and ways of relating that have developed over time.

This approach brings these layers together.

Beginning with EMDR intensive work allows a deeper understanding of each partner - their history, nervous system activations, and internal patterns - before moving into focused couples’ sessions where this understanding can be worked with directly in the relationship.

This pathway may be supportive if:

  • patterns in the relationship feel repetitive or difficult to shift

  • conversations escalate or lead to distance

  • there is a sense of not feeling understood or emotionally met

  • individual experiences are shaping how you relate to one another

It can be particularly supportive where there has been complex or longstanding trauma, and where taking time to understand each partner individually helps create a greater sense of emotional safety before working together as a couple.

How it works

This is a structured, short-term intensive process.

It includes:

  • EMDR intensive sessions (individually)

  • Followed by three 90-minute couples sessions across one week

The EMDR work allows space to understand each partner more deeply, while the couples sessions support integration - working with the patterns as they arise between you.

What this approach offers

This pathway begins with EMDR Intensive work for each partner.

An EMDR Intensive focuses on processing the experiences that sit underneath current emotional responses and relationship patterns. By working at this level first, each partner is supported to feel more stable, less reactive, and more able to stay present.

We begin by working with what sits underneath, so the relationship work can go deeper - creating more space for connection.

Working with what happens between you

From here the couples sessions can focus more directly on what is happening between you - not just from the surface, but from a place that has already begun to shift.

This allows for:

  • a deeper understanding of each partner’s internal world

  • patterns to be recognised more clearly as they arise

  • less escalation and more capacity to stay with one another

  • a greater sense of emotional safety within the relationship

Rather than preparing for the work, we are able to move more directly into it - working with the dynamic as it unfolds, with greater awareness and possibility for change.

The Intention

When both partners have had space to work with their own experiences first, something different becomes possible in the relationship.

Rather than staying at the level of reaction or protection, we are able to go deeper - working with what sits underneath the patterns, in real time.

This can create a different kind of space between you.
One where there is more awareness, more capacity to stay present, and a greater possibility for genuine connection.

What this could look like

Each partner completes an EMDR Intensive at the level that best suits them, followed by three 90-minute couples sessions to support integration within the relationship.

This is held within a systemic approach, informed by my training as a family therapist, where we work with both individual experiences and what unfolds between you.
